HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT

The walls enclose the ridge between the Tabakhane and Zağnos valleys, with upper, middle and lower sections forming the city’s defences. Ortahisar’s Fatih Great Mosque was the church of Panagia Chrysokephalos. Walls visible from the streets and this building bring Byzantine and Ottoman layers of the city together.
