PRACTICAL ACCESS & WALKING METHOD
Use the route up Sarayüstü Hill from the Cumhuriyet Square area. Allow at least 20 minutes from the centre for the steps and climb.
HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT
Built in 1885, the stone tower stands on the hill behind the government building. Its clock faces the centre, while the surrounding open space looks towards the castle and rooftops along the stream. The two hills help explain Kastamonu’s setting in a narrow valley.
Why visit
Look across the centre from the opposite hillside.
VISITOR TIP — WHAT NOT TO MISS
Leave the tops of steps clear and watch for changes of level while looking across the valley.
