HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT

Completed in the late fifteenth century under Aq Qoyunlu ruler Qasim ibn Jahangir, Kasımiye Madrasa centers on a two-story arcaded courtyard where a carved water channel flows into a rectangular reflecting pool. Its upper terrace and south-facing windows open directly onto the vast Mesopotamian plain. The interplay of cut limestone symmetry and running water makes it one of Mardin’s most memorable spaces.
