HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT

The UNESCO brief bounds Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia by the region between Nevşehir, Ürgüp and Avanos, which makes Avanos the northern gate of the plateau. The workshops on the bank are not tied to a single museum desk; each potter opens a separate bench, and the rock-cut houses above the embankment share the frame with the clay.

Why visit

Drop to the Avanos bank to leave tuff architecture and watch Kızılırmak clay become pots at the bench.

VISITOR TIP — WHAT NOT TO MISS

From the Avanos embankment, look at the rock-house silhouette first, then ask an atelier for its own hours before you join a wheel demonstration.
