PRACTICAL ACCESS & WALKING METHOD
The Kızılçukur ridge road between Göreme and Çavuşin looks into the valley; the path down to the floor needs its own time.
HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT
UNESCO describes the property as a volcanic landscape sculpted by erosion into ridges, valleys and the pinnacles called fairy chimneys. Kızılçukur is the red arm of that sequence between Çavuşin and Göreme, and the sunset ridge lets you read the cones without dropping to the valley floor.
Why visit
Reach the Kızılçukur ridge before sunset to see the chimneys redden without dropping into the dust of the valley floor.
VISITOR TIP — WHAT NOT TO MISS
Do not save the Kızılçukur descent for twilight; watch the sunset from the ridge, then return while you can still pick out the path.
