HISTORY & ARCHITECTURAL CONTEXT

The present mosque was completed in 1874 with support from Pertevniyal Valide Sultan after the earlier building was damaged by fire in 1867. Large windows, a stepped entrance and twin minarets distinguish it within the bazaar. A short visit outside prayer times lets you see the façade and light inside.
