Caucasian Front War History Museum (Kanlı Tabya)
The Caucasian Front museum inside Kanlı Tabya, the bastion that covered the south side of town, with the treaty wagon in its yard.
The museum page dates the bastion to 1803, under Selim III, when it was called Yeni Tabya, and ties the name Kanlı to the garrison killed in the night attack of 1828. An older directorate note describes fortification on this line beginning in 1734–1739 under Mahmut I and strengthened in 1805–1806; keep the date of the standing museum building separate from that longer story of the ground. The work served in the 1855 defence of Kars and in the war of 1877–1878. Russian generals who came for the Treaty of Kars on 13 October 1921 gave the white wagon in the garden to 15th Corps commander Kazım Karabekir, who then used it between Kars and Erzurum. The museum opened as a unit of the Kars Archaeology Museum.
Why visit
To read the mass of black basalt, from outside, as a surviving piece of the 19th-century defence line.
Before the wagon in the yard, walk the basalt entrance block from the court and leave the small door lettering at the edge of the frame.
