Gaziantep Castle
Indoor access needs confirmation
Rising at the center of the historic bazaar and han district, this ancient hilltop citadel anchors the old city with its stone-clad glacis and towers.
Perched on a natural mound along the southern bank of the Alleben stream, Gaziantep Castle originated as a Roman watchtower before being expanded into its circular twelve-towered form under Byzantine Emperor Justinian I and later Mamluk and Ottoman rulers. Its stone-paved glacis and dry moat serve as the visual compass for the surrounding historic hans, Hamam Museum, and Coppersmith Bazaar.
Why visit
To view the monumental stone fortifications from the surrounding bazaar terraces and orient your walk through the old town.
Walk the perimeter lane opposite the Hamam Museum for the clearest angle on the stone glacis and castle bastions.
